I came by night bus from London. What can I say I try to find some really cheap few days holiday. Did I archive it? In some ways yes in some no. I will mention that later hehe.
As the mention before finding cheap transport for Edinburgh wasn’t that hard. I didn’t even try to check flying or trains. Why ? My friend told me that busses are the cheapest and if you buy 2-4 weeks before your departure then even better. I check megabus offer. And find £5 one way sleepers tickets.(look at gold offer that athe best one). I was really shock how comfortable they were. If you don’t mind no space to sit,and basically can sleep anywhere for short periods this is perfect. I travel few times for longer that 5-7 hours in sittings buses/coaches and I hate it. Why your legs don’t rest all the blood go to them and you fell more tired when you leave the bus. On this trip they welcome me with free muffin and water for dinner. They were ice and helpful. You get pillow and blanket, as well as there are power socket and wifi. As my friend travel few times you might be lucky enough to have both, but don’t count on it. He travel by sleeper bus 6-7 times and says you got power or wifi. I got unlimited internet in my phone so power more important for me.;-)) I arrive at Edinburgh bus station at 8am little late but rested. I slept all the time. For goodbye they gave me crossant as well as small kids size orange juice- for breakfast. The bus station as well as main train station are close in space. Near Main Street Princes St. Strain away you will see Edinburgh castle and all attractions. If you cross the bridges with are little confusion because they are not over water you will in second part of old town. The bridges runs over train station and train railway. It’s Waverley station. On main Princes St as well is tram to airport as well as most buses. On Waverley bridge is bus stop for far bus number 100 to airport.
I find hostel on cowgate street for £10-£12 per person per night (6 people room). They own few flats on the street , once you got the key you can walk in and out of it. There Issa kitchen as well as in almost all hostels. I was there around 9am and they told me that a there is free Gide tour from nearby Starbucks. The deal is that you pay the Gide as much as you think you can afford or think he deserve. The tour takes 2 hours and gives you idea of the places there. They took you as well to Greyfriars kirk where the fans of Harry Potter will find something for them. The Tomas Riddle grave is there as well as next by school mix with Edinburgh castle supposedly was main of inspiration of hogwart Harry Potter school. That what the Gide told me so I don’t mind. Supposedly author of Harry said that. After that I spend day walking on the street and walking around shops. I need to admit I am addicted to charity shops. You can find there some stunning thinks as well as you know is recycling/charity.
That was my first day in Edinburgh walking around, stopping for coffe meal. On the evening you can visit one or even few pubs around old town.
